STEUBENVILLE, OH-Franciscan University of Steubenville inaugurated four new households before the first Household Life Mass of the semester Friday, January 20.

'This reactivation and inauguration of households is a visible expression of how much households have been, and continue to be, an integral contributor to the unique culture of Franciscan University,' said Father Gregory Plow, TOR, coordinator of Households.

These new and re-activated households are four of the 48 households on Franciscan University's campus. Households are student faith communities in which members share common charisms and join together for commitments of rosary, weekly Mass, and Lord's Day, which is a Saturday afternoon welcoming of the Sabbath.

Guardians of the Divine Will, a new men's household, seeks to live a radical daily walk with Christ through the intercession of their patrons Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, Blessed Pope John Paul II, and St. John Bosco. This household's members consecrate their lives and actions to God through their pillars of purity, consecration, and mission.

A new women's household, Spirit & Truth, strives to live a lifestyle of unceasing praise through the truth of the Catholic Church. They support one another in pursuing the love of God and in seeking the gifts of the Holy Spirit. They take early disciples St. Luke and St. Paul, and Blessed Elena Guerra as the patrons of their household.

Prodigal Sons' Return, a re-activated and re-founded men's household, began their process of reestablishment in February 2011 by connecting with alumni from the original Prodigal Sons Household. With devotions to St. Joseph and St. Peter, the household strives to grow in faith through the charisms of prudence, temperance and chastity.

Illuminata Pace, Latin for 'illuminating peace,' is a women's household that briefly went inactive in the fall of 2011, but was re-activated this semester. Illuminata Pace continues to model their charisms of peace, humility, joy, and cheerfulness. Their patrons are St. Francis, St. Clare, and Our Lady of Czestochowa.

With an average of 18 students per household, over 800 students currently participate in this cornerstone of the University's faith-filled identity.
