First Farmers and Merchants Bank Supports Greenways for Nashville

Greenways for Nashville raised a record $13,000 this past Giving Tuesday

Nashville, TN: This past November, First Farmers and Greenways for Nashville joined together for a successful #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide.

Greenways for Nashville is the non-profit friends group supporting Metro Parks in its Greenways development. Their mission to create, preserve, and promote Greenways across the county is accomplished donations from individuals and corporations like First Farmers, which gave a $5,000 matching grant for Greenways for Nashville's #GivingTuesday campaign. In this single day of giving on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, GFN had raised over $13,000, which was an all-time-high for the organization.

This is the fourth year that First Farmers has partnered with Greenways for Nashville for #GivingTuesday. 'We're thrilled to continue to partner with First Farmers,' says Greenways for Nashville Executive Director Amy Crownover. 'These private-public partnerships are the foundation of our work, and help us continue to succeed in our mission. About 60% of all Nashville homes are within a mile of a Greenway - and we're aiming for 100%!'

Greenways for Nashville is a local, non-profit organization founded in 1994 with the mission to create, preserve, and promote a system of Greenways in Nashville and Davidson County. In partnership with Metro Parks Greenways Division and the Greenways and Open Space Commission, Greenways for Nashville works to provide all citizens with barrier-free access to natural resources and wildlife, recreational opportunities, and stress free commuting for bikers and walkers. To date, Greenways for Nashville has assisted in developing a significant paved greenway trail network of over 86 miles, acquiring over 4,266 acres for conservation, and protecting 11,000 acres of land.
