FairWarning, Inc, a leading provider of solutions which expand trust in mission critical applications such as Salesforce, Electronic Health Records and cloud-based applications, announced today that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued U.S. patent 9,202,189 to FairWarning, IP, LLC. Issued December 1, 2015, the patent details the method of detecting fraud and improper access of business information in a customer relationship management (CRM) computer environment using audit logs.

Data theft and misuse from departing employees and other insiders have a big impact on many businesses causing stress, financial loss and distraction. Today, more and more businesses are storing their most sensitive information in CRM environments, such as Salesforce. This means thousands of current employees, departing employees, or an employee whose credentials may have been compromised, have access to confidential information such as investor, shareholder, patient, consumer, customer and prospect information. All of this data can be accessed, exported and downloaded by anyone with access, often without detection.

The patent is the intellectual property foundation for FairWarning for Salesforce, an easy-to-install, easy-to-understand solution for Salesforce customers to manage data protection and governance from anywhere, anytime.

“I founded FairWarning to protect businesses against the theft and misuse of confidential information within mission critical apps,” said Kurt J. Long, founder and CEO of FairWarning, Inc. “In 2005, when I submitted my initial patent application, EHRs and CRMs were undergoing extreme growth and were wide open to vulnerabilities. I saw this as a big opportunity to give businesses the ability to protect themselves against insider breaches as well as remediate quickly. Today, FairWarning safeguards over 300 applications including Salesforce and 7,500 healthcare facilities and exchanges.”
