The Association of American Publishers (AAP) announced that Dan Duncan has joined the AAP leadership team as Senior Director of Government Affairs. In this new role, Dan will lead several initiatives critical to publishers and digital learning companies including privacy and accessibility issues. He will also assist in projects involving copyright and licensing and international aspects of AAP issues.

“Dan is a veteran of the information and publishing industries, and we’re thrilled to have someone with his depth and breadth of knowledge join our team,” said Allan Adler, General Counsel and Vice President of Government Affairs. “His experience on Capitol Hill, as both a staffer and advocate, and familiarity with the issues our members face make him an asset to our team.”

Dan began his career in Washington as legislative director for former Congressman Jack Brooks, who held chairmanships of both the House Government Reform and Judiciary Committees. Most recently, he served for 10 years as Senior Director at McGraw-Hill Financial and its predecessor corporation, The McGraw-Hill Companies. In that position, he managed policy programs focused on international trade and investment, regulation of credit rating agencies, and intellectual property rights and licensing. He also formed and led McGraw-Hill’s first-ever corporate anti-piracy program. Prior to his tenure at McGraw-Hill, Dan was the Executive Director of NFAIS after holding the position of Vice President, Government Affairs for the Software & Information Industry Association and before that, at the Information Industry Association.

Dan has represented the interests of publishers, information services and information technology services companies in business and policy discussions throughout his career. He is a frequent speaker on trade and intellectual property matters and has served on a number of association committees, industry working groups, and private-public sector councils regarding copyright and licensing, government information policy and privacy.
