On Wednesday, D.A. Davidson & Co., a full-service investment banking firm with a national scope and international expertise, hosted its Louisiana Energy Executive Summit: Year-End Review & Outlook. D.A. Davidson and energy executives shared their analysis of the capital markets and M&A activity in the Louisiana Energy market. With the plunge in oil prices over the last four months, Davidson anticipates a decline in energy M&A activity in 2015. However, transaction volume will accelerate in the second half of the year as buyers and sellers converge on pricing, E&P companies seek to upgrade portfolios of assets, and service companies look to scale up in order to survive the drop off in activity and profitability.

“CEOs and business owners should use the downturn as an opportunity to upgrade their talent pool and portfolio of technologies, and to expand their service lines at very attractive valuations,” said Miro Lazarov, managing director for D.A. Davidson’s Energy Investment Banking Group. “We anticipate that the buyers in 2015 will emerge as the leaders in the industry as the markets start to recover in 2016.”

Business executives from the Louisiana energy services industry gathered at the Courtyard Marriott in Houma as Davidson shared its analysis. The event was part of Davidson’s bi-annual Louisiana Energy Executive Summit series.

Davidson’s speakers were joined by keynote speaker Paul Hillegeist from Quest Offshore, a strategic advisory firm to the global oil & gas industry headquartered in Houston. Other speakers included Tanner Moran, director of business development at Hastings Equity, Matt Miller, partner at Baldwin Haspel Burke & Mayer, and Jim Harden, principal at Hein & Associates in the valuation services group. Baldwin Haspel and Hein & Associates were also the event sponsors.
