Communications services companies rose as momentum from a strong earnings season built.

Comcast rose 2% and was up about 6.3% for the week after it staunched the bleeding on losses of broadband and cable-television subscribers.

Verizon ticked up on the day and rose by more than 7% for the week in the wake of strong subscriber additions.
