Communications services companies rose amid deal activity.

Imagine Entertainment, the film and TV production company co-founded by Ron Howard and Brian Grazer, is in talks to sell a majority stake to Centricus, a London-based investment firm, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Separately, Village Roadshow Entertainment Group, a film-and-television financier with a deep library of content and close ties to AT&T's Warner Bros studio, is exploring strategic options including taking on a significant investment or selling itself, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Vine Alternative Investments, a private equity firm that is the controlling shareholder of Village Roadshow, has tapped investment bank PJT Partners and has held talks with potential suitors.

AT&T was the leading bidder in a recent spectrum auction for 5G bandwidth, placing more than $9 billion in bids, followed by about $7 billion from Dish.
