Commodities trader Trafigura sets first emissions target

LONDON (Reuters) - Commodities trader Trafigura has set its first emissions reduction target, aiming to cut its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by at least 30% in absolute terms by the end of its 2023 financial year, it said on Wednesday.

"Achieving our target will result in a sustainable reduction of over one million tonnes of CO2 equivalent from our operations," the firm said in its annual responsibility report.

The Geneva-based firm will use its 2020 emissions as the base level. Its financial year ends Sept. 30.

Trafigura's total greenhouse gas emissions were 13.48 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent (CO2e) in 2020, up 20% from 2019. Its Scope 1 and 2 emissions were 3.48 million tonnes of CO2e.

It intends to set a Scope 3 emissions target by its 2023 financial year.
