Natural gas customers in Republic Township, Brownsville Borough and South Union Township, Fayette County will soon benefit from infrastructure replacement projects totaling over $5.25 million, starting early January. Construction will occur between 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Saturday work is possible.

Republic Township
Benefiting streets: Knox Road
Traffic impact: No detours or lane closures are expected
Replacing approximately 4,985 feet of underground pipe
Investment of approximately $750,000
Construction to take place until early spring

South Union Township
Benefiting streets: Belmont Circle, Linden Place, Spruce Way, Jane Lane, Cecil Street, Virginia Avenue, AB Alley, AC St, AG Alley, AD Alley, AF Alley, AE Alley, AK Alley, AL Alley, Country Club Boulevard
Traffic impact: No detours or lane closures are expected
Replacing approximately 9,560 feet of underground pipe
Investment of approximately $1,500,000
Construction to take place until mid-spring

Brownsville Borough
Benefiting streets: Water Street, Hood Street, Sheridan Avenue, 2nd Street, Angle Street, 18th Street, 16th Street, Joiner Street, Race Street and Arch Street
Traffic impact: There may be temporary lane closures and detours during working hours only
Replacing approximately 14,740 feet of underground pipe
Investment of approximately $3,000,000
Construction to take place through 2017

As part of the projects, customers along the project scope may experience a temporary service interruption. Columbia Gas will personally contact these customers to schedule service restoration. Customers with indoor meters will have their meters relocated to the outside of the premises and their service lines replaced as well. This work will be done at no additional cost to the customer.

All company and contract employees carry photo ID badges identifying them as Columbia Gas employees or contractors. Customers are encouraged to ask for ID before allowing anyone into their home or they can call 1-888-460-4332 for Columbia Gas employee verification.

From 2007 - 2016, Columbia Gas invested nearly $1.35 billion in the modernization and expansion of its distribution system in Pennsylvania. Of that amount, approximately $1 billion was dedicated to replacing 826 miles of priority pipe. In 2017, Columbia Gas will invest approximately $260 million in Pennsylvania, with more than $200 million being invested to upgrade aging underground infrastructure.
