In an effort to help customers manage winter heating bills, Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania, Inc. will be releasing a series of weekly installments throughout the heating season called 'Cold Weather Minute.' These tips are aimed at helping customers manage their energy bills this winter heating season by using energy wisely.

Use these simple tips to reduce energy costs during winter.
  1. Keep the cold out by insulating your walls and attics.
  2. Caulk and weather-strip doors and windows.
  3. Reduce chilly drafts by covering windows from the inside with plastic.
  4. Keep cold air returns and vents uncovered and fireplace dampers closed when not in use.
  5. Making sure your thermostat is set to a temperature that suits your comfort and your wallet. Dropping the temperature by 10 -15 degrees when you're out of the house (for eight hours) can save 5 - 15% on your heating costs, according to the US EPA.
