WASHINGTON, Jan. 19, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Parents of students at Fox Ridge Middle School are speaking out after discovering an online portal that wouldn't get past most internet filters. A local family stumbled on the pornographic material as they were checking their child's password access at school. Now, they're exposing what the district never intended moms and dads to see: a controversial sex education site filled with erotica, advice on performing certain acts, information on bondage, and much more.
Yesterday, Drew Paterson, a Colorado parent upset over his school district's sex ed curriculum, appeared on Washington Watch with Tony Perkins, a national radio show which airs on more than 240 stations across the country. On the show, Paterson discussed how students have access to extremely pornographic material - material that parents' passwords cannot access. Drew and his wife Robin have a daughter in the 8(th) grade in the Cherry Creek School District, and brought their concerns before the school board.
In the interview Paterson explained the district's negligence to inform parents of the controversial material being presented to their children, "The district refused to issue notification letters to the parents warning them that this material might be available through the portals, and not only are they hiding it from the parents through the parent log in to the school website, but they are refusing to let parents know that this danger exists."
Paterson went on to discuss the response from school officials at board meetings using words like "hostile", sharing that the superintendent shouted at his wife, and that they were met with "sarcastic derogatory remarks." The superintendent even reported Paterson to the police for using obscene remarks at one of the school board meetings, although the "remarks" Paterson was making were not his own, but were quoted from the material that was made available to the children. Paterson responded, "Their policy should be preventing the provision of obscenity to children."
Family Research Council President Tony Perkins, the host of Washington Watch, added, "Children attending middles schools in the Cherry Creek school district are now being given access to material encouraging them to become sexually active. There's a lot of stuff on here I don't even want to talk about on the radio. What is even more outrageous, it appears that access to the website by password restricts parents from reaching the same pornographic sites that their children can access with their password. That to me is a huge problem," concluded Perkins.
