In the middle of December, the City of Coos Bay authorized Benny Hempstead Excavating, Inc. to perform an emergency storm sewer line replacement project near the intersection of Newmark Avenue and Ocean Boulevard (Near the Nancy Devereux Center). This situation was first presented as a sinkhole on private property. Upon further investigation, it was determined a portion of the storm drain was deficient and needed immediate attention.

This system was originally constructed in the late 1960's and was beyond its useful life. The emergency project includes the replacement of over 200 feet of 36' storm drain pipe and three new manholes. The total project is estimated to cost $250,000. The project will be complete by the end of January.
