OWINGS MILLS, Md., Jan. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Chesapeake Urology Associates, PA, the premier urology practice in Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic region, is pleased to once again provide scholarships to college students exploring a career in the medical field. The scholarships are awarded through the Central Scholarship Fund, a non-profit organization that has been connecting funders with students and awarding scholarships since 1924.

Scholarship recipients are chosen through a Central Scholarship application process that includes an essay and meeting financial criteria. The organization typically funds 10 percent of all applications received making the process extremely competitive.

This year's Chesapeake Urology Scholarship recipients include:

Daniela Duvra- An undergrad junior at Andrews University majoring in Pre-Physical Therapy, Daniela grew up in a sports environment and around a family of nurses. This combined with a high school vocational program allowed her decide to pursue a career in physical therapy. Daniela has excelled in her physical therapy classes. It is Daneila's goal to continue her education in a Doctor of Physical Therapy program.

Katayoun Eslami- Katayoun is an undergrad junior at University of Maryland College Park majoring in Biological Sciences: Physiology and Neurbiology. Her interest in medicine began in high school. Discouraged by others in her small town of Easton, Katayoun became more determined to make her dreams come true. She began volunteering at hospitals in 2008 and landed a shadowing opportunity with a neurosurgeon some years later. After the shadowing experience, there was no turning back. Katayoun continues to be intrigued and fascinated by the limitless nature of medicine.

Jessica Erisman- Jessica is an undergrad sophomore at UMBC in the pre-nursing program. Jessica knew at a very young age that she wanted to help people. Having some illnesses as a teenager, she met a few nurses that made a lasting impression and were very inspirational. It was then she decided to pursue a career in nursing. Jessica's ultimate goal is to become a nurse practitioner.

Brynn Huffman- Bryn is enrolled in the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing and is a freshman in the accelerated nursing program. Service to others was always emphasized in Brynn's household. Brynn first considered a career in the medical field after some illnesses as a child. It was later on a service project in the Appalachia that she discovered she wanted to make a difference with her career in nursing. It is Brynn's goal to use her nursing degree to facilitate change by improving health care options for people in poverty.

Giving back to the community is one of Chesapeake Urology's core values.
