Data of Central Statistical Bureau show that, compared to 2012, total retail trade turnover in 2013 rose by 3.8%, according to calendar adjusted data. Retail trade in food products has grown by 4.4%, whereas of non-food products - by 3.4%.

Compared to December 2012, total retail trade turnover in December 2013 rose by 4.2%, according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices. Rise in food commodity group comprised 8.6%, but in non-food commodity group - 1.5%, while retail sale of automotive fuel reduced by 8.2%. Most rapid turnover increase in December was observed in retail sale of furniture, lighting equipment and other household articles - 27.6%, in retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet - 25.5%, in retail sale of second-hand goods - 20.2%, in retail sale of textiles - 15.6%, as well as in retail sale of electrical household appliances - 11.2%.

In comparison with December 2012, total retail trade turnover at current prices rose by 3.1% (not taking into account the calendar influence).

Compared to the 4th quarter of 2012,total retail trade turnover in the 4th quarter of 2013 grew by 4.0%, according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices. Retail trade in food products has grown by 6.6%, whereas of non-food products - by 2.5%.

As retail trade turnover is significantly affected by public and national holidays, as well as by different price campaigns, in order to ensure that turnover data of all months are mutually comparable, the data are seasonally adjusted. Thus, in December 2013, compared to November, total retail trade turnover at constant prices has dropped by 0.5%. Retail trade in food products has grown by 0.6%, whereas of non-food products - reduced by 1.2%. Retail trade turnover in December is significantly affected by reduction in retail sale of automotive fuel - 4.1%, as well as by drop in retail sale in non-specialised stores selling mainly non-food products - 3.6%.    

In comparison with November, total retail trade turnover at current prices in December of last year rose by 16.2% (not taking into account the calendar influence). A year ago - in December 2012, compared to November 2012 - turnover rose by 16.1%. The largest turnover growth was recorded in retail trade of food products - by 20.8%, as well as in sectors providing goods that are traditionally purchased for Christmas presents. For example, retail trade of household electrical appliances grew by 77.2%, retail trade of cosmetics and toiletries increased by 70.3%, retail trade of toys and sporting equipment - by 54.0%, of newspapers, books and stationery - by 47.4%, of watches, jewellery - by 47.1%, as well as of computers and telecommunication equipment - by 43.9%.
