CareOne LLC Chief Executive Officer Daniel E. Straus announced today that a group of New Jersey CareOne employees will leave Sunday on a medical mission trip to southern Haiti, where they will conduct a series of free medical examinations and administer medical supplies provided by CareOne.

The trip is being conducted in conjunction with the Midland Park, N.J.-based International Humanitarian Aid Foundation, which operates a school for more than 300 children, many of them orphans, in the port city of Les Cayes in southern Haiti. The school was established by the foundation in 2010 with the support of the Oradell, N.J., chapter of Rotary International. The chapter originally brought the needs of the school to the attention of CareOne Oradell Health Care Center Administrator Jeff Hoffman, a Oradell Rotary member who is leading the trip.

Straus said, "CareOne is proud to be the primary sponsor of this medical mission. CareOne has long prided itself on being a member of the 29 New Jersey communities we serve, and it is in recognition of both the Oradell connection with the Haitian school and the CareOne employees of Haitian descent that brought about our enthusiastic participation in this most needed work. The need for medical assistance in Haiti is extreme, and our CareOne employees wanted to reach out and help. We are pleased to support them in their efforts."

Hoffman said, "The team making this trip is committed to making a difference. The support of our corporate parent has been superb, and we look forward to trying to meet the needs of some of those in Haiti who so desperately need medical care."

Along with Hoffman, those making the trip from the Oradell CareOne Center are Dr. Ellie Djebiyan, practicing physician at Holy Name Hospital, Teaneck, N.J., and Oradell Center medical director; Afrika Parks, R.N; Naomi McDermott, assistant administrator; and Edna Destin, LPN. Ms. Destin is a native of Haiti who immigrated to the United States in 1998 and began work at the Oradell Center as a certified nursing assistant. Then, while continuing to work full time, she put herself through school to become a licensed practical nurse.

Oradell Rotary Chapter President Tom Kelly said, "We could not be more pleased at the response of these caring individuals from CareOne. We are proud of the work we have done in helping to establish the Les Cayes school, and we know this medical mission will be of great assistance to these children in need as well as those in surrounding communities."

Pastor Andrew Topp, who along with friends established the International Humanitarian Aid Foundation in 2007, will be on the upcoming trip. He said, "The students in the Les Cayes school are in true need of physical examinations and vaccinations, and the medical mission will go a long way towards helping the students, many of whom are orphans. Southern Haiti is relatively isolated area, and gaining access to health care is even more difficult than it is in the rest of the country. We are very grateful for CareOne's response to this urgent need."

The New York Chapter of the American College of Health Care Administrators also donated funds for the trip.

After two days in Les Cayes, the medical mission will journey to other communities in south Haiti, including Mallard, Pestel and Ti Riviere. In each location the team will conduct medical examinations and administer medical supplies provided by CareOne.

Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, continues to suffer greatly from the devastating January 2010 earthquake.
