OTTAWA (Reuters) - The Canadian government is closely assessing Rogers Communications Inc's C$20 billion ($14.90 billion) bid to buy Shaw Communications Inc and will make a decision on the deal that is in Canadians' best interests, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Wednesday.
Ottawa "continues to look very closely at the file and we will make appropriate decisions in the best interests of Canadians at the right time," Trudeau told reporter in Hamilton, Ontario.
The deal to create Canada's No. 2 telecoms operator now needs the government's approval after a Canadian court on Tuesday dismissed the competition watchdog's effort to block the transaction.
