Highest y-o-y growth of retail sales since January 2011

Sales in retail trade including the automotive segment after seasonal adjustment increased in November by 3.6% at constant prices, month-on-month. Working days adjusted sales increased by 7.8%, year-on-year. Non-adjusted sales increase by 6.1%, y-o-y, was the most contributed to by sale of motor vehicles and non-food goods.

Seasonally adjusted sales in retail trade including sale and repair of motor vehicles increased in November at constant prices by 3.6%, month-on-month. Working days adjusted sales increased by 7.8%, year-on-year. Non-adjusted sales increased by 6.1%, y-o-y; with a lower number of working days (-1) it was influenced by growth of sale of motor vehicles (+3.4 p.p.), non-food goods (+2.2 p.p.), and food (+0.3 p.p.); sale of automotive fuel (-0.2 p.p.) had the opposite effect, see Table 2.

Seasonally adjusted sales for sale and repair of motor vehicles (CZ-NACE 45) increased by 4.9% at constant prices, m-o-m. Year-on-year, working days adjusted sales increased by 16.6%. Year-on-year, non-adjusted sales increased by 13.2%; for sale of motor vehicles (including spare parts) they increased by 15.1% and for repairs by 6.4%.

In retail trade including sale of automotive fuel (CZ-NACE 47) seasonally adjusted sales at constant prices increased by 3.2%, m-o-m. Working days adjusted sales increased by 4.4%, y-o-y. Non-adjusted sales increased by 3.3%, y-o-y, due to higher sale of non-food goods by 6.3% and food by 1.1%, while sales for automotive fuel dropped by 2.1%.

Growth of retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet by 36.4% (highest during the last four years) had the biggest influence on the overall development of retail sales. Retail sales increased in all surveyed assortment groups except for the already mentioned sale of automotive fuel and dispensing chemist, medical and orthopaedic goods, cosmetic and toilet articles (drop by 6.2%). Sales for information and communication equipment in specialised stores increased by 13.1%, retail sale of cultural and recreation goods in specialised stores grew by 8.6%, clothing and footwear by 6.6%, and retail sale of other household equipment in specialised stores increased by 5.4%. Retail sale in non-specialized stores with food, beverages or tobacco predominating increased by 1.4%; in enterprises with 100+ employees in this group sales increased by 2.7%.

The price deflator (CZ-NACE 47) related to the corresponding period of the previous year (VAT excluded) was 98.8%. For most of non-food goods decrease of prices continued, which was the most marked in the assortment of information and communication equipment. On the contrary, the highest y-o-y growth of prices was recorded in food stores and retail sale of cultural and recreation goods in specialised stores.
