Ifo Export Expectations - Results of the Ifo Business Survey for January 2016

Jan 26, 2016

Fewer German manufacturers expect exports to rise than last month. Their export expectations fell to 7.6 balance points in January from 11.6 balance points last month. This stifled the trend that had been emerging in the German export sector in recent months. Weakness in the emerging economies, and primarily in China, now seems to be having an impact.

Greater pessimism was mainly expressed by capital goods companies, particularly in the electronics industry, mechanical engineering and the automotive sector. Low oil prices, however, are currently benefitting the chemical industry, where export expectations rose sharply.
