A car accident left Rivera with a

compound leg fracture in 1986

After rigorous physical therapy, she recovered

and went on to win her second Tony

for 'Kiss of the Spider Woman' in 1993

Rivera made history as the first Hispanic

woman to receive a Kennedy Center Honor

She also received the Presidential

Medal of Freedom in 2009

and a special Tony for Lifetime Achievement in

2018 for her nearly seven-decade career
