Belgium's economy continued to grow slowly at the start of the year, maintaining last year's steady expansion.

Gross domestic product rose 0.3% between January and March, the same rate as in the previous three quarters straight, the National Bank of Belgium said Monday. Industry recovered to growth but the important services sector slowed in the lowland nation, the eurozone's sixth-largest economy and home to many of the European Union's major institutions.

The NBB expects growth to slow over the year as a whole, forecasting overall expansion of 1.3% in estimates published in December, and with little in the way of a rebound seen in the following years.
