BYD's mid-sized, high-end G6 sedan sales have outperformed China market expectations by outselling every other domestic brand and reaching over 5,090 units in December -- a 200% growth over November's sales. These sales numbers are even more remarkable considering that G6 sales launched just 4 months ago. BYD is working hard to catch up with demand, as 10,000 per month unit sales are predicted for the near future.

BYD launched the surprisingly affordable G6 in September, 2011. The car features BYD's internally-developed, revolutionary, all-aluminum-alloy 1.5L Turbo-charged engine paired with a six (6)-Speed Tiptronic dual clutch transmission (DCT). The dimensions of the G6 are; 4860mm x 1825mm x 1463mm with a wheelbase of 2745 mm, making the vehicle spacious as well as luxurious. The BYD G6 can be equipped with an aspirated BYD 2.0L 483QB engine and 5-speed manual transmission with a peak torque of 140 hp (103KW) and 186Nm at 4000-4500 rpm. However, customer response has been greater to the turbo-fuel-stratified, injection engine (Ti+DCT), which reaches a maximum output of 113 KW and peak torque at 240Nm at 1750-3500 rpm. This fuel miser statistically surpasses all of the naturally aspirated 2.0 L engines used for medium and high end cars. The BYD 1.5 Ti engine produces 1.43 times more power than the same displacement engine and is equivalent to a 2.4 L gasoline engine.

With the BYD G6 and Ti+DCT engine design combo, BYD has shown that they are still committed to improving their full line of gasoline-engine designs, staying at the forefront of internal-combustion engine technology. BYD worked over two years on the Ti+DCT technology and "owns the intellectual property supporting this technology," according to Stella Li, Senior Vice President of BYD. The Ti+DCT is a standard option for the BYD G6 1.5Ti sedan and is available as an option for other 3 BYD models. Currently, only one other foreign brand is offering a turbo-charged engine that is comparable in the Chinese markets. BYD is the first domestic Chinese company to develop this technology in-house, solidifying its competitive edge in the automotive industry.
