Arup : Fire Safety Expert Barber Transfers to Washington D.C. Practice

WASHINGTON, Jan. 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Arup, a multidisciplinary engineering and consulting firm with a reputation for delivering innovative and sustainable designs, announced that David Barber, principal and fire safety engineer with 20 years of experience working in Arup's Australian division, has transferred to its Washington D.C. office to develop fire safety solutions in the Americas.

Barber has extensive experience working closely with clients in developing fire safety solutions that complement buildings and result in systems integrated with the building form, while meeting regulatory and non-regulatory fire safety objectives. With an interest in high-rise building evacuation and the developing role of building sustainability in fire safety and protection, David will focus his efforts on local and national projects. His considerable international experience includes projects in the high-rise towers, road and rail infrastructure, retail, conventional hall, and hospital industries.

David will be responsible for winning new work and managing projects related to fire safety engineering. He will apply his vast experience collaborating on the fire safety engineering for rail and roadway tunnel to new and existing infrastructure projects, and integrate with his building-focused fire safety colleagues in D.C.

David joined Arup in 1997 and has more than 20 years of experience in the engineering industry. He received his bachelor's and master's degree in civil engineering with a concentration in fire engineering from the University of Canterbury, NZ, is a chartered professional engineer, sits on the board of directors for the Society of Fire Protection Engineers, and is a member of the National Fire Protection Association.

While Arup has been involved with major building and infrastructure projects in and around the metropolitan D.C. area for many years, the office officially opened in 2008.
