The safe and secure disposal of computer and electronic equipment is a concern for many Arizona consumers and businesses as they upgrade their existing devices in the new year. In an effort to provide smarter, more environmentally friendly and convenient recycling choices, the Arizona Technology Council Foundation, supported by Data Doctors and Westech Recyclers, today announced it is hosting its biannual statewide Technology Recycling Day on Saturday, January 23.

“As the cycle of technology innovation continues to accelerate, it is more important than ever to recycle efficiently and properly,” said Steven Zylstra, president and CEO of the Arizona Technology Council. “This program provides a service for all Arizona citizens to have their older computer and electronic equipment picked up and recycled twice a year at no cost.”

All donated equipment will be handled through the Arizona Technology Council Foundation’s TechTerra program, in partnership with Westech Recyclers. As part of that program, a portion of the equipment is donated to support educational programs and community facilities throughout Arizona.

Drop-off Dates, Locations and Times:

Receipts for tax donation purposes will be available at all locations. Honeywell and Data Doctors locations will not accept Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) televisions and monitors.

The following drop-off locations are open to the public and are accepting donations on Saturday, January 23:

  • Honeywell, 21111 19th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85027 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • All Data Doctors locations in the state of Arizona, including Flagstaff and Phoenix, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. A complete list of Data Doctors locations can be found at http://www.datadoctors.com/mkt/AZ.

Demonstrating corporate responsibility, Avnet, Henkel, One Neck IT Solutions, Texas Instruments, and The University of Arizona Science and Technology Park are also participating in the Arizona Technology Council Recycling program by holding employee-only events at their respective sites. Interested relevant parties should contact their human resources department for further information.

The electronic equipment and components acceptable for drop-off includes personal computers, computer peripherals, networking equipment, main frames, servers, point-of-sale equipment, printers, audio/visual and telecom devices, surplus metals, wire, cable and power strips. Miscellaneous electronic items such as test and/or lab equipment are also acceptable.

Those wishing to donate their hard drives, but want to make sure that the information is securely wiped, can drop off their donations at the Data Doctors Data Recovery & Forensics lab located at 725 S. Rural Road, #107, Tempe, AZ 85281.

“Every day, individuals and organizations dispose of mountains of e-waste, containing hazardous and toxic materials that pose significant environmental risks,” said Tom Holland, business development manager, Westech Recyclers, an Arizona Technology Council member company. “With over 20 years of experience serving the community, we make it our business to recycle through an environmentally secure process that promotes the highest and best reuse of electronic equipment, and recycles unusable items to keep them out of landfills.”
