(Alliance News) - Inflation in the eurozone slowed as expected against the previous year in December, the latest data from Eurostat revealed on Wednesday.

The eurozone's annual harmonised index of consumer prices increased by 9.2% in December, cooling from a 10.1% hike in November.

The annual reading is in line with an earlier flash estimate.

Core inflation - which excludes energy, food, alcohol and tobacco - was 5.2% in December on a harmonised, annual basis. The previous month's core inflation rate was 5.0%.

The lowest annual rates were registered in Spain, Luxembourg and France.

Compared with November, annual inflation slowed in 22 member states, Eurostat said, with inflation remaining stable in two and rising in three.

Separately, Eurostat reported that production in the eurozone construction sector fell by 0.8% in November against the previous month.

In October, production in construction rose by 1.0%.

Compared with the previous year, production in construction rose by 1.3% in November.
