Airlines for America (A4A), the industry trade organization for the leading U.S. airlines, today named Jarrod D. Thompson as Vice President for Legislative and Regulatory Policy. Thompson joins A4A from United Airlines where he is currently Director of Congressional Affairs. He also has extensive experience working on airline-related issues on Capitol Hill where he served as Republican Senior Professional Staff Member for Aviation for the Senate Commerce Committee.

In this new role, Thompson will draw on his policy expertise in transportation, particularly economic regulations governing commercial aviation, as A4A continues to advocate for a National Airline Policy to address the tax, regulatory and infrastructure challenges that affect the industry and its passengers and shippers. With strong bipartisan relationships both on and off Capitol Hill, Thompson also has in-depth knowledge of the legislative process and a history of building coalitions that successfully advocated for specific legislative goals.

“With his uniquely relevant legislative and airline industry experience, Jarrod will help us build on the work our team does to advocate on behalf of our members and the two million customers they fly every day,” said Nicholas E. Calio, President and CEO of A4A. “As FAA Reauthorization approaches, it’s critical that we are doing all we can from a legislative and regulatory policy perspective to ensure this industry can drive jobs, compete and safely connect people and goods to the global economy, all while not burdening our customers with additional taxes. To that end, Jarrod will be a great addition to an already strong team.”

Prior to joining United Airlines in 2012, Thompson held several roles on the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation. These included Deputy Staff Director, Republican Senior Professional Staff Member for Aviation, and Staff Director for the Subcommittee on Aviation. Thompson earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Montana State University.

Thompson will start Feb. 16 and will report to Sharon Pinkerton, A4A’s Senior Vice President for Legislative and Regulatory Policy. He succeeds Chris Brown, who recently was named Staff Director for the House Transportation Subcommittee on Aviation.

ABOUT A4A

Annually, commercial aviation helps drive nearly $1.5 trillion in U.S. economic activity and more than 11 million U.S. jobs. Airlines for America (A4A) vigorously advocates on behalf of the American airline industry as a model of safety, customer service and environmental responsibility and as the indispensable network that drives our nation’s economy and global competitiveness. Our member carriers and their affiliates transport more than 90 percent of all U.S. airline passenger and cargo traffic.

America needs a cohesive National Airline Policy that will support the integral role the nation’s airlines play in connecting people and goods globally, spur the nation’s economic growth and create more high-paying jobs. A4A works collaboratively with the airlines, labor groups, Congress and the Administration to improve air travel for everyone.
