NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Jan 15, 2016) - Adorama, one of the world's largest photography, video and audio, imaging and electronics retailers, recently published a tribute to musician and actor David Bowie in Adorama Learning Center (ALC). Bowie passed away on January 10, following an 18-month battle with liver cancer.

Adorama's Liz Daza paid tribute to the music and pop culture icon by listing 10 of his best album cover photos. She also summarized his achievements, noting that Bowie became "a living legend thanks to his prolific [songwriting] that effortlessly traversed across a wide array of musical styles including: folk rock, glam rock, pop, soul, funk, new-wave, electronic, experimental, and more. An early leader of the glam rock movement, Bowie also pushed the limits of fashion with his androgynous looks, writing songs reflecting the rebellion of the era -- songs which would become anthems for generations."

Liz's number one pick among Bowie's top 10 best album covers is "Aladdin Sane," released in 1973. The album cover photo, which was shot by Brian Duffy, features Bowie in the guise of Ziggy Stardust. It has become one of David's most recognizable photos, and for many observers, epitomizes the decadence of the 1970s.

Other notable album cover photos featured in the list include "The Man Who Sold the World" (1970) that showcases Bowie defying fashion norms by appearing in drag, "Heroes" (1977) that features hand movements inspired by German artist Erich Heckel's work, and "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars" (1972) that features a striking colorized photograph of Bowie.

These and other album cover photos in the list highlight Bowie's groundbreaking visual style, which often challenged social and gender conventions of his era. Bowie was clearly not just interested in pushing the boundaries of pop music but also in taking music photography to greater heights.
