The Houston CPA Society's 24th annual CPE Tax Expo moves to a new location for the January 6th & 7th event. The planning committee is excited about the move to the Sugar Land Marriott at Town Square. The conference topics are aimed not only at those with a tax practice, but also at those in industry, law, and financial services.

The two day conference will provide 18 hours of CPE, 15.5 hours of MCLE and 17 hours of CFP certification. Registration fees are $375 for members of the Houston CPA Society and non CPAs. Nonmember CPAs pay $450. We are planning numerous topics of interest for you. Register online at www.HoustonCPA.org or at 713.622.7733.

On Monday morning, Steven J. Tillinger returns to provide updates on the latest tax law and rule changes for individuals and small businesses, then after lunch, you may select from four individual track options, including several topics not covered in 2013. Leonard Weiner returns with "New Paradigm for Income and Estate Tax Planning after ATRA;" Susan Sorensen is back with "International Tax - What Works and What Doesn't," and Austin attorney Michael Seay reviews Texas State Taxes.

Tuesday's conference offers four track options all day, including a TSBPA-approved four-hour Ethics course. Greta Hicks is back in 2014 to discuss "Texas Marriage/Divorce Tax Issues," recent favorite Brett Berly returns with his Generation-Skipping Tax presentation, and Robert Mendell offers "Choice of Entity." Local attorney Larry Campagna offers "Recent Developments in IRS Enforcement."

New presenters to Tax Expo in 2014 include: Steve Goodman, "Retirement & 'After' Retirement," Bruce Hurta and Wade Holmes with "Buying a Practice with SBA Loans," Stefanie Grasty "Affordable Care Act: the Small Group Focus," and Tamara Woods provides "FATCA Update."

You don't want to miss "eServices - What Do I Do Now," with a local IRS representative to discuss recent changes and options, or lunch as James A. Smith, CPA (TSCPA Past Chairman), discusses "Tax Practice Management: Where Will the CPA Practice be in 2024?" By purchasing a binder with all printed course materials, you can catch up on presentations you are unable to attend.

The Tax Expo is more than just a conference for CPE. You will have ample time for networking so bring plenty of business cards to exchange between sessions, at the employee/employer job exchange table, and at lunches.
