A member of the United Steelworkers Union, Mr. Derosby began his career with the mining company IOC in Sept-Iles.
A native of Côte-Nord, he early on became a union activist.
When the plant shut down in 1981, Mr. Dérosby had to take a new direction and chose the construction industry, where he worked as a crane operator from 1983 to 1997.
A committed employee who was close to the decision-making structure, he actively fought at the end of the ‘80s to have the crane operator trade reintegrate the QFL-Construction since most of the crane operators at the time belonged to an international union that failed to give them a voice.
In 1992, more than 75% of his co-workers voted to return to the QFL-Construction, forming a new entity within the operators union known as local 791G (G standing for crane operators in French).
Mr. Derosby was the director of this local from 1997 to September 2004.
