Dr. Tabea Bucher Koenen is a Head of Research Department at Zentrum für Europäische Wirtschaftsforschung GmbH.
She has been head of the ZEW Research Department “Pensions and Sustainable Financial Markets” since January 2019.
Her research focuses on household finance, the economics of ageing and demographic change.
She is particularly interested in private and public pension systems and the impact of long-term financial decisions.
Her most recent publications mainly focus on individual savings behaviour and insurance decisions, as well on the significance of financial literary and information.
Prior to that, she took the position as head of the research unit “Health Economics” at the Munich-based Max Planck Institute for Social Law and Social Policy in 2011, where she later served as head of the unit “Old-Age Provision and Social Policy” from 2014 to 2018.
Prior to that, she was a visiting researcher at Dartmouth College, US.
She studied business and intercultural management at Friedrich Schiller University Jena, as well as European integration at the University of Kent at Canterbury, UK.
In 2010, she finished her doctoral thesis on “Financial Literacy, Cognitive Abilities, and Long-Term Decision Making – Five Essays on Individual Behavior”, under the supervision of Professor Axel Börsch-Supan at the University of Mannheim.
