Mr. Abel is a graduate of the University of Connecticut where he earned a BA in International Relations.
He began his business career in 1962 as a management trainee with Atlantic Richfield Corporation.
During the years 1963-1968, Mr. Abel returned to duty as a submarine officer in the U.S.
Navy, having previously served from 1958-1962.
In 1970, he received an MBA in Finance from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Abel’s investment career resumed in 1970 with Manufactures Hanover Trust Company where his succession of responsibilities through 1985 included Security Analyst; Director of Research; Deputy Manager, Investment Area; and Chief Investment Officer, Private Banking Division.
In 1985, Mr. Abel became Chief Investment Officer for Hartford National Corp.
and in 1991, upon the merger with Shawmut National; he was appointed Chief Investment Officer of Shawmut National.
In September 1994, he joined Jamison, Eaton & Wood as Senior Vice President.
