Philip A.
Smitley joined Carmike in April 1997 as Controller.
In January 1998, he was elected to his present position of Assistant Vice President and Controller.
In March 1999, he assumed the duties of interim Chief Financial Officer pending the appointment of Martin A.
Durant in July 1999.
Prior to joining Carmike, Mr. Smitley was Divisional Controller -- Transportation of Burnham Service Corporation, a trucking company.
On March 22, 2002, Mr. Smitley filed a personal voluntary petition for relief under Chapter 7 of the Federal Bankruptcy Code in the United States Bankruptcy Court of the Middle District of Alabama.
This petition was discharged on August 2, 2002.
