Profile

Mr. Derrick specializes in the areas of corporate law, business transactions and international law, and represents both established and emerging growth businesses in the U.S.
and internationally.
He advises clients on the negotiation and documentation of venture capital investments and other early stage financings, transactions involving technology transfers and strategic partnering, mergers and acquisitions, international trade regulations, international distribution arrangements, contract enforcement and general corporate matters.
He is active in economic and entrepreneurial development in western North Carolina and the Upstate of South Carolina, and recently served as the Chairman of the Carolina Connect venture capital conference.
Prior to rejoining Womble Carlyle in August, 2000, Mr. Derrick was involved in a policy and legislative practice.
Following completion of his Masters of Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard in 1997, he served as Special Counsel to a Commissioner on the National Gambling Impact Study Commission, and worked with the North Carolina legislature as a lobbyist.
He also has an extensive background in litigation and has handled matters at all levels of the federal court system, and in the state courts of Georgia and North Carolina.
He began his legal career by serving as a judicial law clerk to a federal district court judge in North Carolina.
