Profile

Prior to becoming an Executive Director, Dr. Toyonaga held advisory positions on Ventana's Executive Advisory Committee and Scientific Advisory Board.
For the past few years, he has provided consulting services and interim executive/general management support to the biotech industry – from startups to business and capital support providers – as they relate to the business management of R&D, i.e.
business and technology diligence, fund raising, corporate and business development, IP strategy, real estate and TI strategies, and issues related to the handling/disposal of biological, chemical and radioactive hazardous materials.
Prior to that Dr. Toyonaga held senior management positions with responsibilities for the business management of R&D at Protein Design Labs, Inc. and within the Johnson & Johnson organization.
While at J&J, he was accepted as a Visiting Research Scientist at The Scripps Research Institute (La Jolla, CA) and established the J&J Laboratories at Scripps.
Before that he was a Visiting Scientist at the California Institute of Technology (Pasadena, CA), Yale University School of Medicine (New Haven, CT) and was a MRC postdoctoral fellow at the Ontario Cancer Institute (Toronto, ON).
At the Ontario Cancer Institute, he was involved in the discovery of the human T Cell Receptor.
Dr. Toyonaga received a Ph.D.
in physical organic chemistry from the University of Toronto (St. George Campus, Toronto, ON).
