From 2009 to 2014, he had been Professor for Macroeconomics at the Center for Macroeconomic Research at the University of Cologne.
Before that, he had been Assistant Professor at the Mannheim Research Institute for the Economics of Aging (MEA).
He obtained his doctoral degree at the University of Mannheim, with research stays at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, and the University of California at Berkeley.
