SJVN Limited announced that Ministry of Power through its order dated 27 November 2024, has entrusted the additional charge of the post of the Chairman and Managing Director, SJVN Limited to Shri Raj Kumar Chaudhary, CMD, NHPC Limited, for a period of three months with effect from November 1, 2024 or till a full-time incumbent is appointed or until further orders, whichever is earlier. Accordingly, in line with the aforesaid order of Ministry of Power, Shri Chaudhary has assumed charge with effect from November 28, 2024 and his appointment has been taken on record with effect From the date of assumption of charge. Shri Raj Kumar Chaudhary (59 years) is a graduate in Civil Engineering from BIT (Sindri) and has also done Advance Diploma in Management.

He joined NHPC in 1989 as a Probationary Executive (Civil) at Koel Karo HEP, Jharkhand. Shri Chaudhary steadily rose in his career to the post of Chairman & Managing Director, NHPC. Earlier, he was also Director (Technical) of NHPC.

Shri Chaudhary has worked at various positions in Cost Engineering department, Design & Engineering department and four Construction Projects of NHPC, Koel Karo, Kalpong, Teesta-V and Subansiri Lower HEPs and two construction projects in Bhutan, Mangdechhu & Punatsangchhu-II HEPs. He possesses experience in all aspects of development of a hydro-project from concept to commissioning and has contributed in development of hydropower in India and Bhutan. Shri Chaudhary worked at Kalpong HE project from conception to commissioning of the project, 16 months ahead of the schedule.

It was a remarkable achievement for NHPC as the project was in a very remote island of Andaman & Nicobar. Shri Chaudhary has played active role in commissioning of Teesta-V HE Project (510 MW) in Sikkim and Mangdechhu HE Project (720 MW) in Bhutan. Shri Chaudhary was also instrumental in repairing of HRT of 1020 MW Tala HEP Project in Bhutan as an expert member.

Shri Chaudhary is also Chairman and Nominee Director on the Board of NHDC Limited and Loktak Downstream Hydroelectric Corporation Limited (Subsidiary Companies of NHPC Limited).
