SYDNEY--Media conglomerate Nine Entertainment agreed to acquire Australian streaming rights to English Premier League soccer from Optus, allowing the Singapore Telecommunications-owned telecom provider to refocus on core services.
Nine on Monday said it would pay an upfront 20 million Australian dollars, equivalent to US$13.1 million, for the right to stream the EPL and FA Cup competitions.
It will contribute further through the rights cycle, while also receiving undisclosed payments from Optus through 2028.
Nine expects the acquisition to be positive on an earnings and cash basis to its Stan streaming platform over the term of the rights, which expire in mid-2028.
