The UK is considering removing green taxes on electricity to make it cheaper to install heat pumps. This is according to the Financial Times, citing government and industry sources.

While heat pumps are more efficient than gas boilers, their cost is significantly higher. The electricity cost for heat pumps is four times higher than for gas boilers, partly due to green electricity charges that go to wind and solar power producers.

Last year, only 60,000 heat pumps were installed in the country, falling well short of the previous Conservative government's target of 600,000 heat pumps by 2028.

Gas boilers currently dominate the market for heating homes in the UK, but also account for over 15 percent of the country's greenhouse gas emissions.
