(Alliance News) — During the Astana International Forum, in the presence of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Kazakhstan President Qasym-Jomart Toqaev, Tecnimont Spa and Samruk-Kazyna, Kazakhstan's sovereign wealth fund, signed a memorandum of cooperation aimed at supporting the development of energy infrastructure in the country.
The agreement outlines collaboration between the parties on both conventional and sustainable downstream energy projects, the implementation of decarbonization solutions, and the enhancement of the local value chain.
Within this framework, the MAIRE Spa group will leverage Tecnimont's proven expertise in large-scale project execution, as well as Nextchem's proprietary technologies and know-how in sustainable innovation, providing advanced engineering and technological solutions aligned with Kazakhstan's sustainability goals.
Other areas of cooperation include the empowerment of young professionals through internships in partnership with Kazakh universities, as well as initiatives aimed at boosting the local economy.
As part of the cooperation agreement, the MAIRE group will also establish a regional operational and engineering hub to support various strategic initiatives. These include the development of a petrochemical project recently awarded to Tecnimont at the beginning of 2025. The project focuses on the construction of a polyethylene production plant in the Atyrau region, scheduled for completion by the end of 2028.
Alessandro Bernini, CEO of MAIRE, commented: "We are proud and honored to launch this collaboration in Kazakhstan with Samruk-Kazyna and its affiliates. Tecnimont's recognized leadership in downstream energy project execution and engineering, along with Nextchem's technology portfolio, have been crucial in entering a strategic market such as Central Asia, where we see opportunities to support local sustainability and economic development goals."
MAIRE shares are up 0.9% at EUR 11.15 per share.
