7-Eleven Canada will promote its new Petro-Canada, Esso and Mobil partnerships with grand openings across Ontario and Alberta that will offer giveaways over a five-hour period on June 18, the company said in a Wednesday news release.
During the promotion window, the stores will offer food and beverage samples, in-store buy-one, get-one-free specials and a coupon for a free medium Slurpee and free coffee redeemable the day of the grand openings or on a return visit.
In addition, it said the first 100 customers will receive a fuel savings card to use the next time they buy fuel, the release said.
7-Eleven customers will earn Petro-Points under Petro-Canada's loyalty program or PC Optimum points, a fuel-purchase loyalty program operated by Canadian retail conglomerate Loblaw. On eligible in-store purchases, they will receive both 7Rewards and points from the fuel partner, the release said.
7-Eleven Canada in April said it would rebadge its pumps in Alberta and Ontario to ExxonMobil's Esso and Mobil or Suncor's Petro-Canada brands. Sixty-three of 7-Eleven Canada's 550 stores will be rebranded by the end of the year, the company said.
The retailer said it made the move because offering recognizable fuel brands appeals to customers.
The conversion comes as other North American fuel retailers, including Canada-based Alimentation Couche-Tard - 7-Eleven's largest rival, are moving away from major oil brands. Couche-Tard has been rebranding pumps to the Circle K Fuel brand for several years.
Couche-Tard and other retailers have said they are shifting from branded fuel because they can buy unbranded fuel cheaper and sell it under their own brand.
They can also promote fuel and store merchandise with their own loyalty programs instead of participating in a branded fuel rewards program, allowing them to own the data they collect.
