Fans and air conditioners may soon become scarce at electronics retail chains MediaMarkt and Saturn, as a heatwave sweeps across Germany and Southern Europe.
Due to record-breaking temperatures in Germany and Southern Europe, consumer demand for these devices is currently "very high," explained a spokesperson for the Düsseldorf-based Ceconomy subsidiaries on Tuesday. "At present, we have sufficient stock available in our stores and in the online shops of MediaMarkt and Saturn," the spokesperson added--pointing out that over 4,000 different fan models are available online alone. The chains anticipate continued strong interest in the coming weeks. However, customers are urged to act quickly: "Since manufacturers' capacities are fundamentally limited and we can therefore only reorder a limited number of fans and air conditioners, we recommend purchasing a new air conditioner or fan as soon as possible."
People across Germany and much of Southern Europe are currently struggling with extremely high temperatures. The German Weather Service (DWD) forecasts temperatures of up to 40 degrees Celsius (104°F) in Germany this Tuesday. In some areas, the 40-degree mark could also be reached on Wednesday. Media Markt and Saturn operate around 1,000 stores across Europe, with a presence in Southern Europe as well.
