FLENSBURG (dpa-AFX) - Sales of electric cars slumped in July compared to the same month last year. Last month, 30,762 all-electric cars were newly registered in Germany - 36.8 percent fewer than in July 2023, according to the Federal Motor Transport Authority. The share of all new car registrations in Germany in July was 12.9 percent.
This confirmed a trend in July, as interest in new electric cars has been lower than in the previous year for months. Just under 215,000 electric cars have been registered in Germany since January, which corresponds to 12.6 percent of all new registrations. In the first seven months of the previous year, there were 268,926 electric cars, accounting for 16.4 percent of all new registrations.
A total of 238,263 new cars were registered in Germany in July, 2.1 percent fewer than in the same month last year. According to the German Association of the Automotive Industry, some companies had brought forward car registrations to June due to a new EU regulation. 65.8 percent of new registrations were commercial (-6.3 percent compared to July 2023)./nif/DP/ngu
