Birla Corporation Limited announced the details of the Order passed by the Assistant Commissioner, CGST & CX, Budge Budge Division, Kolkata South Commissionerate, received by the Company on 6 September 2024. Order passed confirming the demand pertaining to payment of Central Excise Duty, Jute Cess, Education Cess, Secondary and Higher Education Cess against clearance of goods as per the provisions of Central Excise Act/Rules, during the period 2007-08, 2008-09, 2009- 10 and 2010-11. Central Excise Duty: INR 80,985, Jute Cess: INR 39,313, Education Cess: INR 2,381, Secondary and Higher, Education Cess: INR 1,192 Penalty plus applicable interest: INR 144,920.
Date of receipt of direction or order, including any ad-interim or interim orders, or any other communication from the authority: 6 September 2024. Demand Order raised against the Company alleging Goods cleared without payment of Central Excise Duty, Jute Cess, Education Cess and Secondary and Higher Education Cess as per the provisions of Central Excise Act/Rules which is recoverable under section 11A(1) of the Central Excise Act, 1944. INR 268,791 plus applicable interest The Company believes that the above order is not maintainable and hence is in the process of filing an Appeal against the said order/demand.
