Representatives of Rijkswaterstaat (RWS), the operational arm of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water management, and representatives of GelreGroen signed the major contract for a highway project in the Netherlands. The GelreGroen joint venture consists of HOCHTIEF (40%), John Laing (40%), Dura Vermeer (10%) and BESIX (10%).

The project planning, construction and maintenance work will be carried out by a consortium consisting of HOCHTIEF (25%), Dura Vermeer (25%), BESIX (25%) and Van Oord (25%).

In the Arnhem area, the GelreGroen joint venture will extend the A15 by twelve kilometers and also widen the A12 and A15 by adding new lanes over a distance of 23 kilometers. In addition to planning and construction, the contract also provides for the financing, operation and maintenance of the highway until 2051. The joint venture was originally awarded the contract in 2020, but due to appeals before the Supreme Administrative Court, work has not yet been able to start.

The start is now scheduled for January 2026. The new section of the A15 and the additional lanes on the A12/A15 will be opened by the end of 2031. In the course of the construction work, 45 bridge structures, ten traffic junctions and additional noise barriers will be built. The centerpiece of the new traffic axis will be the new bridge over the Pannerdensch Canal with a length of approximately 2.5 kilometers.

Sustainability is one of the focal points of the project and plays a major role in both the planning and construction as well as the operation of the highway. The name "GelreGroen" refers to a "nature inclusive design" in which "Groen" stands for sustainability and environmental protection. This is reflected, for example, in the efficient use and reuse of materials and construction methods.
