Palantir Technologies has joined the S&P 500 index, achieving a major objective for the company and its CEO Alex Karp. Karp has an ambivalent relationship with Wall Street, which has earned him a mixed following among institutional investors and retail investors. The latter, often active on Reddit, overwhelmingly support Palantir and its CEO.
The Bloomberg Businessweek article reveals that Palantir now generates more revenue from its commercial customers than from its government contracts. However, doubts remain among some institutional investors about the viability of the company's AI sales. Palantir's ownership structure is also notable: Karp and his co-founders have introduced super-powerful voting rights that give them lasting control. This configuration, established at the time of the IPO, was accepted by the S&P following a relaxation of the criteria.
Despite the controversy, Alex Karp has led Palantir to great success, symbolised by its inclusion in the S&P 500 index.
