(Alliance News) - On Monday, the Mib posted gains, breaking through the 39,900-point threshold in line with advances across major Eurozone bourses, as investors weighed signals that could prompt the US to postpone the July 9 deadline for trade negotiations.
President Donald Trump stated that several trade deals are nearing completion, with targeted countries receiving notice of the tariff hike scheduled for July 9, to take effect August 1. The US had initially proposed a base tariff of 10% in April, with some duties reaching as high as 50%, but most have been postponed until this week.
The EU is working to avert a significant tariff escalation by negotiating a preliminary agreement that would include a universal 10% duty on many goods, with lower rates for strategic sectors such as pharmaceuticals, alcohol, semiconductors, and commercial aircraft.
