Ethereum's support layer: Optimism is a Layer 2 scaling solution for Ethereum that enables up to 2,000 transactions per second (TPS). In concrete terms, it records batches of transactions submitted to the Ethereum main chain and executes them on a parallel Layer 2 chain using a process called transaction rollup. Simply put, this technique mitigates most of the overhead costs of computing and storing Ethereum transactions. In a way, it is a solution that is directly grafted onto Ethereum to supercharge the network. With Optimism, we can truly speak of a superimposed layer that is dependent on the evolution of Ethereum. We could even describe the relationship between Ethereum and Optimism as "mother-daughter," as they share the same consensus algorithm and the "daughter" chain lightens the load of operations for the mother chain to which it is subordinate. Many of Ethereum's decentralized applications are found on Optimism in order to offer a better experience to developers and users, both in terms of execution time and transaction fees.
Features:
Optimism has its own native token, OP, which gives holders the right to vote on future protocol updates related to the updates.
