Outstanding mobile coverage even on the Flüela Pass
Swisscom is continuously investing in the expansion of its mobile network - not only in urban areas, but also in remote regions, high passes and valleys. The aim is to ensure reliable coverage for all, regardless of geographical location or local population density. Because if you're connected anywhere, you can discover and achieve even more. The region around the Flüela Pass is the latest to benefit from the mobile network expansion project.
Swisscom is improving access to the latest mobile communication technologies like 4G and 5G by working closely with communes, cantonal authorities and specialist partner companies like Axians and Cablex to expand the network. Its plans take into account topographical features, existing infrastructure and future network quality requirements. The company is working hard to give customers an outstanding experience on Switzerland's best network - wherever they are in the country.
Site availability a big challenge
One crucial factor in the mobile network expansion is the availability of suitable sites. Without landowners granting Swisscom the space required to install equipment, no new mobile sites can be created. Plus, identifying suitable sites in the first place - and gaining planning permission - can often be a complex, drawn-out process. However, Swisscom is committed to pursuing this expansion and continuing to offer Switzerland's best network across the entire country.
«We want to offer mobile coverage everywhere it's needed, regardless of geographical location. That's why we continue to make significant, long-term investments in this.»
Philipp Bichsel, Head of Mobile Network
Flüela Pass example: Improved service
One recent example is the new mobile site currently under construction on the Flüela Pass, an area that until now has only had limited mobile coverage. The new site will significantly boost network quality for local residents, tourists and transit services. The project is a fantastic example of how Swisscom is bringing reliable connectivity solutions to challenging locations.
The film about the new mobile site on the Flüela Pass documents the physical installation and illustrates how technical expertise and effective collaboration are creating new connections.
