Singtel said it is open to participating in consolidation efforts within the telecom industry in Singapore.

"We have always been actively seeking to participate in consolidation," Chief Executive Yuen Kuan Moon said Thursday at a postearnings briefing.

Yuen said that Singtel would "evaluate the opportunities" if given regulatory approval to do so.

The comments came after Singapore's telecom regulator suspended its review of Australia-listed Tuas's planned acquisition of Singapore telecom operator M1 in a deal valued at more than US$1.1 billion.

The Infocomm Media Development Authority made the move after learning that a unit of the Australian company, Simba Telecom, may have used unauthorized radio frequency bands, potentially breaching Singapore's Telecommunications Act and the conditions of its operating license, Tuas said Monday.
