Singtel's net profit surged in the first half of its fiscal year, mostly driven by exceptional gains.
Singapore's largest mobile network operator said Wednesday that its net profit climbed to 3.40 billion Singapore dollars, equivalent to US$2.61 billion, for the fiscal first half ended Sept. 30. The company had reported a net profit of S$1.23 billion for the same period last year.
The exceptional gains totaled S$2.05 billion, mainly from the sale of a partial stake in Airtel and the Intouch-Gulf Energy merger.
Operating revenue declined to S$6.91 billion in the fiscal first half from S$6.99 billion for the same period a year earlier.
Taking into account the strong first-half growth and uncertainties in Australia as a result of the outage at Optus, Singtel said it now expects operating company EBIT for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2026 to grow between high single digits and low double digits. Singtel had earlier guided for high single-digit growth for operating company EBIT.
