Scandibio Therapeutics has recruited 200 patients for its multicenter Phase 3 study evaluating the efficacy and safety of the drug candidate Combined Metabolic Activator (CMA) in patients with Alzheimer's disease, according to a press release.

The announcement comes as the company's three founders, Adil Mardinoglu, Mathias Uhlén, and Jan Borén, recently had a peer-reviewed review article published in the journal Trends in Endocrinology & Metabolism, summarizing the scientific foundation behind CMA and mitochondrially targeted treatments.

Scandibio's CMA treatment aims to stimulate mitochondrial activity, distinguishing it from therapies such as Bioarctic's drug Leqembi, which focuses on clearing the beta-amyloid plaques that form in the brains of patients.

Scandibio is privately held, with Navigare Ventures serving as a major shareholder alongside the founders. Navigare is owned by Wallenberg Investments.
